The MX-5 Cup Series is a spec series in which drivers race for a championship to earn a $200000 scholarship from Mazda to advance their racing career. The cars used in the series arrive to a shop in Statesville NC where they are converted from production MX-5 Miata’s into racing cars. The cars are completely disassembled and stripped of any unnecessary production parts. A full roll cage that includes door bars is welded into the car. Over 250 race-oriented performance and safety parts are then added to the car during the rebuild process which includes parts and modifications to the engine bay, drive train, suspension, brakes, and interior. Each car is powered by sealed a 2.0L motor which is hooked up to a 6-speed manual transmission.
