1985 Audi Quattro Sport.
The Audi Quattro Sport was the first car to effectively take advantage of the change in FIA rules to allow AWD in rally racing. The AWD system in the Quattro allowed the car to accelerate quickly on loose surfaces. The result was two straight Group B World Rally championships in the 3000cc class.
According to the homologation rules established by the FIA, in order to race a car in the Group B rally series, at least 200 of those cars per year had to be available for sale to the public. Audi produced 214 of these cars for the public in 1985 and 224 in 1986. The car in these photos is an ‘85.
The car has a 2.1L, 5-cylinder, turbocharged motor which is hook up to a 6-speed transmission with a sequential gearbox. With a body made from Kevlar and a total weight of 2403lbs, the car can accelerate from zero to 60 MPH in 3.1 seconds.
