1942 Alfa Romeo 6C 2500 SS Bertone Berlinetta. Made in Italy.
The body of the Alfa Romeo 6C 2500 SS Bertone Berlinetta was made from aluminum. The car weighed about 2500 lbs. The chassis was modified by Scuderia Ferrari who shortened the car's Type 256 chassis.
The Alfa Romeo 6C 2500 was produced from 1938 to 1945. During that period of time, about 1200 6C 2500's were built.
The 6C 2500 came with a 149 cubic inch, in-line, 6-cylinder motor that featured three Weber carburetors and was capable of 120HP. Top speed was 115 MPH.
The 6C 2500 in these pictures was a special "one off" model. This SS Bertone Berlinetta was considered the "top of the line" model of the 6C 2500 series. It was sold to an automobile dealer from Como Italy. The car was later sold and the second owner shipped the car to the US where it disappeared only to be discovered several years later inside of a barn in Massachusetts. The car was then shipped back to Italy for a complete restoration and then shipped back to the US where it won best in show at the 2011 Contours D'Elegance car show in Pebble Beach.
A.L.F.A. (Anonima Lombarda Fabbrica Automobili) began producing cars in 1910. By 1920, the company had fallen upon hard times Nicola Romeo bought A.L.F.A. and attached his last name to his new automobile company.
Enzo Ferrari began racing for Alfa Romeo n 1921. By the early 1930's, he was no longer racing cars. He was now managing Scuderia Ferrari, the racing department for Alfa Romeo. Ferrari left Alfa Romeo in 1939 to start his own car company.
