Porsche 959 “Sport” (1988).
The Porsche 595 was developed for rally car racing in the Group B 4000cc class. In order to race in Group B, FIA regulations stated that at least 200 cars had to be built and sold to the public for street use.
The street version of the 959 was produced from 1987 to 1988. A total of 292 street versions were produced price of $295000 (in 1988 dollars). When it was introduced in 1987, the Porsche 959 was the fastest street legal car available and was considered the most technically advanced sports car ever built. To save weight, the body panels are built from aluminum and Kevlar. With the savings in weight the car still tipped the scales at 3197 lbs.
The Porsche 959 was powered by a rear engine, stage II factory upgraded, flat 6-cylinder, twin turbocharged, 2.8L motor capable of 550HP with a top speed of 195 MPH. The motor was hooked up to a 6-speed manual with electronic all-wheel drive.
