The Ford RS200 was a mid-engine, four-wheel drive, purpose-built rally car. The mid-engine is longitudinally mounted with a transmission which was mounted at the front of the car to allow for a 50/50 weight distribution. The RS200 was produced in the UK from 1984 to 1986 and competed in the Group B rally car 2000cc class. Homologation rules under the FIA called for the manufacturers of the cars that competed in Group B to supply at least 200 parts kits and one road-legal car to be assembled for the public. The bodies for the RS200's were made from a plastic-fiberglass composite which was constructed by Reliant Motors. Only 200 RS200’s built for the public, and of those, 20 of the cars were ‘S’ models.
The car in these photos is a street version of that rally car and is one of the highly sought ‘S’ models. It features a 1.8L, turbocharged, Cosworth 4-cylinder motor that produced 350HP. The RS200 had a weight of only 2315 lbs with a top speed of 118 MPH and a zero to 60 MPH time of 3.8 seconds. The car in these photo’s is very similar to a race specifications RS200 and only needs decals for race day.
