Hoffmann X-80 (1935)

1935 Hoffmann X-8. The car was most likely built in Boston Massachusetts in 1935.

The mysterious Hoffmann X-8. Very little is known about the origins of the X-8 that Roscoe Hoffmann developed. There is no written history about the car and Hoffmann said nothing about the car after the project was terminated.

Some believe that Roscoe Hoffmann was working with Henry Ford to develop a car that they planned to sell in Europe.

Others believe that Hoffmann was developing the car with the Fisher Brothers under the disguise of a shell company. At the time, the Fisher Brothers were positioning themselves for a take over of Hudson. This car might have been a prototype designed for production after the take over (which never occurred). There is a actual contract that does exist between Hoffmann and a company owned by the Fisher Brothers to built two prototype cars.

Whatever the story was behind the X-8, Roscoe Hoffmann said very little about the car and gave it away to a friend in 1961.

The Hoffmann X-8 was mid-engine and had a water-cooled, 168 cubic inch, "X" shaped 8-cylinder motor.
