1937 Airomobile. Made in the USA.
The Airomobile is a "one off" prototype. Paul Lewis was an inventor and engineer with ties to the automobile and aircraft industries. His goal was to build a car that was both affordable and streamlined. He need financial backing to get his project underway. Unfortunately, it was the 1930's and the Great Depression was in full swing. Many car companies were going out of business leaving many people knowledgeable in automobile engineering and technology available for employment. There was just not enough money available to take advantage of the available talent. Lewis completed the Airomobile in 1937 and spent the next two years touring the country in the car attempting to attract investors. He handed out brochures about the car and offered demonstration rides. The car performed well as it drove over 45000 miles during the two year tour with an estimated claim of 43.5 MPG. The car unfortunately failed to attract any financial backing. The car had hydraulic drum brakes for the front wheels but no brake for the rear wheel.
The Airomobile was front wheel drive with a 129 cubic inch, horizontally opposed, flat 4-cylinder motor capable of 57HP. Top speed was 80 MPH.
