The Carriage House was built in 1888 as a stable. When the Anderson's began collecting cars in 1899, they retired the obsolete cars to the Carriage House. In 1927, the Carriage House was opened for tours to the public and is considered the oldest collection of cars in the USA. Also beginning in 1927, the Anderson's held auto events on the front lawn of the building. Between 1899 through 1948, a total of 32 cars were sent to the Carriage House. Lars died in 1937 and when Isabel died in 1948, she turned the entire collection of cars over to the Veteran Motor Club of America. Fourteen of those cars still remain on display remain in the collection and are stored in basement of the building.
