The Renault 40 CV was built and sold in many variations form 1911 through 1927. When first introduced, at 150 inches, the 40 CV had the longest wheelbase of any car available. This particular model came with a smooth running 9.1L in-line 6-cylinder motor.
The 40 CV had shaped steel fenders and a unique and complex cowl design which gave it the nickname of ‘Crocodile Head”. Unfortunately, the front cowl is not visible as the car is on display with the hood up. Complementing those designs were brass accents and synthetic cone work that ran along the edges of the vehicle.
The Anderson’s enjoyed this car and drove it well into the 1930’s. In the late 1920’s, the Anderson’s toned down many of their cars possibly to disguise their opulence. The cars were painted either black or grey and the brass work was painted over. Despite the modifications, this car remained the showpiece of their automotive collection.
The car’s nickname was “Yankee Doodle’.
