Panhard and Levassor was established in 1887 and built their first automobile in 1891. The car was the first front engine / rear wheel drive car ever built. This became the standard configuration for cars for the next century. It was also the first car to have a steering wheel instead of a tiller.
This 1910 Panhard et Levassor was used by the Anderson's primarily for outings around town to parties or social gatherings. The handcrafted coachwork body was built in Belgium by Van Den Plas. At the time, Van Den Plas employed 400 people and built 300 specialized bodies each year.
The car’s nickname was ‘Columbia’.
