Attempt 1 was powered by a 4-cylinder, 122 cubic inch (1960) Pontiac motor. The body was built from forged aluminum. The car broke the record for Class E top speed in the mile of 114.349 MPH.
In 1985, a wildfire moved through Bradbury CA where Mickey Thompson lived and stored his collection of cars. This car was badly damaged in the fire. His son, Danny Thompson, participated in a project to restore the car to its original condition. After completion, the car was displayed at Wally Parks NHRA Motorsports Museum and was later acquired by the World of Speed in 2013.
