The Saab 96 was a hit with rally fans when it was introduced in 1960. Erik Carlsson frequently won international rally races while behind the wheel of a Saab 96. His wins included the RAC Rallies from 1960 through 1962 and the Monte Carlo Rallies in 1962 and 1963. Through rally racing during the 1960's, the Saab 96 earned a reputation for its toughness and reliability. The Saab 96 was powered by a 3-cylinder, 841cc, two-stroke motor capable of 38HP.
The Saab 96 in these pictures was produced later in 1969. It came with an upgraded and more powerful Ford produced, four-stroke, 1498cc, V-4 motor. This car has been raced in over 50 regional rallies by Garth Ankeny and co-driver Russ Kraushaar since 2006. During that time, the duo have had eight class ins and earned the G2 class championship in 2012 and 2014.
