USF2000 is an IndyCar series which began in 1990 and was meant to be a formative stepping stop for young drivers who want to compete in open wheel racing. The series is considered the first step on the 'Road to Indy'. Drivers in the series can be as young as 15 years of age. The drivers compete for a championship which includes a $313800 scholarship package and the opportunity to advance to Indy Pro 2000. Former series drivers include Dan Wheldon, Sam Hornish Jr., Buddy Rice, Austin Cindric, Andy Lally, Spencer Pigot, Colton Herta, Zach Veach, and Oliver Askew.
The current car was introduced in 2017. The car has a carbon composite body and an aluminum honeycomb monocoque Tatuus USF-17 chassis. The cars are powered by a Mazda MRZ naturally aspirated 2.0L motor capable of 175HP. All series motors are prepared by Elite Engines.
